Intensive rooftop garden from 1992 on top of the connecting 2 floor building between existing building (1936) and new buildung (1991). The idea was not to close all the housefronts and realize a path with natural resources. The garden is for workers use to relax between the worktime, to smoke and meet and enjoy part of nature. It’s a garden with woods, bushes and lower plants and climbing plants to realize shadow under the pergola and covering technical aggregates. Small ponds are integrated and realize a optimal local climate areas . With parts of retention zones it’s realized a optimal wateringsystem, connected with an overflow watering . The space is divided in zones to drain infact of a havarie, what not happened in this more tha 30 years . Very important was the good and early work between the greenplaning and the construction of the building . The rooftop garden is involved in a green building sourroundment of green walls part historical part new plantbox- systems.

Method of establishment of vegetation

We must be open to recognize the different situations for location, near to the building , influences from wind, and plant neighbor plantations . The climbing plants build a lot of stronger roots and have to be Services overlong time

Vegetation

After longtime growing vegetation we see which plants are right for separate locations at the rooftop. The trees are growing fast and envelope strongpoints but have not received any damaging the system. It’s important that a continuous service company goes on long time

Vegetation layer

The 40 - 60 cm deep vegetation layer showed us where and with which intensity the plants fight for there place and waterconnection

Retention layer

The partiell different watering are driven by my a floating system , there are created dams to hold the water where are demanding plants are located.. extra there is a overflow rainbird system

Filtration layer

We use a 200 g filter fleece

Drainage layer

The drainage was a 10-20 cm drainage out of slate chipped , depending of where the water is collected or not , and we use decided of the vegetation zones

Separate layer

As dividers we use 150 g filter fleece , on the other installations, like watering pipes, the electrical installations (waterprotected) are layer on

Protective layer

On top of the insulation of glass wool in liquid bitumen sealing with a topper of an hypolymer ( bitumenresident ) 0,8 mm root protecting sealing layer

Root layer

We uses a 40-60 cm Substrat / earth along the FLL - Richtlinien für Dachbegrünung to allow small trees and shrubs lower plants
