WORLD GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE AWARD

Category selection part

The following six categories cover different aspects of green infrastructure. Feel free to participate with your projects. Become a part of our Green infrastructure database. Your project will be presented here and it has the chance to be selected as one highlight project for 2024. The judging criteria will define in the sub categories. Feel free to select the category you fit in best. 
This is the first year of this form of WGIN – Award. It will be continued in the next years.

NOMINATION CATEGORIES

Multi-apartment housing buildings. Residential houses. Administrative and civil construction buildings (e.g. company headquarters, offices, schools, hospitals, sports halls, theatres). Commercial buildings, shopping centers. Family houses, cottages, garages and outbuildings. Smaller buildings such as garden houses, gazebos, mobile homes, and other structures for family use.

Allowed content

All types of vegetated Green Roofs constructed over built spaces will be considered. Nominations will be accepted from both members or non-members of WGIN. The green roof can be publicly or privately owned and accessible.

GREEN ROOFS

Family houses, industry buildings, neighborhood complexes, indutrials buildings, hotels.

Size of the project, Complexity in methods (also in combination with roofs-/Indoor greening), Biodiversity, Usability, Creative and/or easy to maintain, Low impact environmental design, Life cycle assessment are welcome.

Allowed content

Green façade and Living wall nominations are welcome from all countries. This can be solutions with climber, modular greening, planter boxes or hybrid versions. Multiple nominations will be accepted from developers, planners, investors etc. The project must be built. It must have the potential to be a “World Class Project”. The award is not limited to only new projects. Previously established projects are highly welcome, to profile the successes of projects from previous years.

GREEN WALLS

Project type (or combination of): urban forest, park, public green space, housing estate, garden, urban farming, community garden, green street, rain garden etc.

Allowed content

The category "Green Neighbourhood scale and on-grade projects" is open to all kinds of projects concerning the introduction of greenery into urban space. The size of the area does not matter: from small pocket parks or private gardens to complex projects for entire cities. What matters is that the project has complex ecological and social benefits. Project nominations may be submitted by the site owner, designer contractor or others.

GREEN NEIGHBORHOOD SCALE AND ON GRADE PROJECTS

Policy nominations may include policy:

 - aiming specifically at building integrated green infrastructure (public sector, private sector, residential, commercial etc.)

 - aiming at neigborhood scale building integrated or on-grade green infrastructure

 - aiming at activity that acts as a significant driver for improved and accelerated uptake of green infrastructure, f.eks. increasing knowledge, supporting awareness, influencing financing and economic incentives, supporting pilot projects, and driving innovation and development.

Allowed content

The Green Infrastructure Policy Award will recognize and highlight excellence and in public or private sector policies that promote best practice and accelerated uptake of urban green infrastructure. The award aims to primarily recognize policy supporting building integrated green infrastructure, but other types of urban green infrastructure will be considered.

GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE POLICY

Research and academic dimension will include: Architectural design. Urban agriculture and biodiversity. Socioeconomic improvement with green infrastructure (GI). Artificial inteligence and smart solutions in GI. New knowledge and patents. Well being. Landscape, recreation, water and energy management. 

Allowed content

Green infrastructure research and academic work award will select the excellent activities and projects in public or private sectors related to architecture and socioeconomics with high performance and excellence.

The topics for this category can include but are not limited to:

Urban Greening, Green Roofs and Walls, Sustainable Drainage Systems, Green Transport Infrastructure, Green Spaces and Parks, Ecosystem Services, Climate Change Adaptation.

Allowed content

The Green Infrastructure Student Posters Award invites students worldwide to showcase their innovative ideas and projects in the field of green infrastructure. We are looking for posters that present original research, case studies, or conceptual designs related to green infrastructure. The content should be clear, concise, and visually engaging, demonstrating the student’s understanding and application of green infrastructure principles.
